December 16th, 2017 - Wrapping up the 2017 season, Clay Fisher headed to The Dome at America’s Center (St. Louis, Missouri) on Thursday night for the second annual VP Racing Fuels Gateway Dirt Nationals. Splitting the field of 94 Super Late Models into two separate groups for qualifying, Fisher logged the 23rd fastest time earning him the 6th-starting position for his heat race on Friday.

Transferring the Top 2 into the $5,000-to-win preliminary feature, Fisher logged an 8th place outing sending him into the B-Main. Needing a 2nd place finish or better to make the show, Clay gained four spots in the 12-lapper but came short of a transfer position with a 4th place outing. (K.C. Shaw photo)

Returning on Saturday for one final shot at the $30,000-to-win finale, Fisher rolled off 7th for his 12-lap B-Main. Sending the Top 2 into the main event, Clay wheeled his way into a podium spot but fell one position short of transferring with a 3rd place finish.
